Tales from DeCrypt

One of my regular delights is creating illustrations for Decrypt.co, a phenomenal online site that, in their own words, demystifies the decentralised web. The briefs always allow for that added degree of creativity required to translate the brave new world of crypto currency into a visual representation.

There’s been something of a trend over the last year…

It’s odd how sometimes a certain genre of books projects will wind up on my desk time and again and the last year and a bit has been no exception!

The last time I played football was about 32 years ago at school and while I watch the Euros and World Cup (if England are playing), I don’t have a team that I support. And yet here I was, designing not one but three titles on various footballers. It was great to work all of them and I quickly found my footing with the kinetic styling and youthful exuberance often associated with the game. I also learned some information that will likely come in handy in otherwise awkward alpha-male conversations. “The trouble is with Spurs, they just walk it in…” etc.

…and then there’s gaming. Now, I’ve got a little more knowledge of this, if for no other reason than my kids are by and large obsessed with it. To that end, picking up the ropes on titles such as Apex Legends, Fall Guys, Among Us and Minecraft (which to be honest, I’ve played quite a bit) was a breeze. While all of these titles were ‘100% unofficial’ they all still required an element of familiarity to them in terms of their branding style and look which is always fun to devise.
